Don’t Miss Out- Kalona Chamber Specialty Tour
Have you heard the news?
We’ve convinced you that you need to read this post, so are you ready to hear the good news?! Where do we start? We have finalized our specialty tour information! Last year, our specialty tours were such a hit, that we are coming back with another! This tour includes a wonderful meal at the end with Hearth N Home, so who can say no to good old fashioned home cooked meals? We are teaming up with the Kalona Historical village for an amazing deal as well, so you can enjoy $2 off their tour tickets. That new museum addition is a must see. More info on booking below!~
How does a specialty tour work?
When it comes to our specialty tours, much like a Byways tour, it takes planning and organization. With our normal tours we take you on a 90 minute ride to 3 of our most informative and popular country locations. Many of our tours include our culture here with the Mennonites, the Amish and the little businesses that have built up this town we call Kalona.
When you reach out to the Kalona Chamber of Commerce for a specialty tour, you can book right there on the phone or stop in! Here is the catch, —- there are limited amount of seats. SO DON’T MISS OUT. Reserve your seats as soon as possible.
This year is a FARM TO TABLE tour where your driver will take you through the gorgeous Fall countryside of Kalona. During the tour you will learn tid-bits of Kalona history, people and see different farming adventures! Your driver will be sure to point out school houses, types of farms as well as education on farm progression.
The tour leaves from the Kalona Chamber office at 3:30 and goes to Sinclair tractor! Enlighten your mind on modern education in agriculture on such points as equipment costs, what each piece of equipment can be used for, what is a bean/corn head, and even a sneek peek into modern day technology!
Then after our visit in the Sinclair Tractor, you get on the bus, to pull into the driveway of the Simon T Miller Farm. This is quite different from getting started as a guest with Sinclair. On this farm you will be pulled into the hustle and bustle of horse-drawn farming. On both sides of the road you will see equipment that this type of agriculture specializes in using, some retired and some still very much in use. Leroy will be your guide as he can educated you on the different machinery methods allowed and utilized with his farm, (He may even do a little show and tell with moving hay into the barn!)
The third stop is the Tobias Yoder Farm. This farming style is just as valuable as modern day and horse drawn! Tobias has an array of motorized farming equipment for his little Iowa organic farm that also does sorghum processing! How incredible is that! He will definitely chat about the sorghum stalks and you may be given the opportunity to see right inside the press! There is no shortage of things you can on the farm, so you can get right up in the milking of goats.
Finally to end your new tour experience within our Kalona farming community, you will end the evening at the Henry Miller farm that hosts your delicious home cooked amish-mennonite style food.
What a better way to end an evening, but with a full belly of roast beef, potatoes, noodles, homemade bread, hot veggies served with salad, pie and coffee.
So why go?… well, Sustainability has been a hot topic over the last few years and is growing increasingly important to tourists. Let’s learn new things together! Plus, let us build together new friends.
Build new relationships with Iowa Farmers
Don’t underestimate the power of who you know when it comes to friends on the farm. You will find the kindness and education so encouraging on your tour! That is one of the reasons we love our area of Kalona so much. Some of the people you reach out to may have connections to people you already know! Or even perhaps something you might have a need for. Take inspiration from the questions you already asked the farmers! Start up a conversation with tour takers as you all discuss over dinner and share a meal. You will be surprised at our gem of a town, and the amazing tour that will create unforgettable travel experiences.
